Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18–20).
Whether we have been followers of Christ for many years or only a few, we all feel the weight of Jesus’ words in the Great Commission. I have spent my entire Christian life trying to understand and walk in this truth. I have led others to Christ, taught Sunday school, preached sermons, and supported missionaries; and I honor the truth of the Gospel in my life. I have wondered how we (the Church) would ever get this command fulfilled.
As I have worked at Faith Comes By Hearing for the past 14 years, my perspective has changed. I learned about the 50% of the world who can’t read and live on less than $2 a day. I’ve learned about the unreached Deaf communities around the world. On the surface, you would say this makes the task so much more complex. But, I have also begun to see that God has given us technological advances that can and are being leveraged for the Kingdom work of the Great Commission.
With the use of printed Bibles, solar-powered digital players, Internet, smart phones, tablets, satellites, SD cards, televisions, and all of the resources being developed, the printed and spoken Word of God is covering the world as never before. I began to think that there might be a way to get the Great Commission accomplished. As time progressed, I began to think we might even be able to do this in my lifetime. My perspective at this point is: I can’t see how we (the Church) will not get it done in my lifetime. We are living in an unprecedented time in history.
Everything is accelerating. Translation organizations are developing new tools to aid in more rapid translation processes. The Church is rising up to the challenge of the Great Commission. For the first time in history the Church has the resources available and the means to fulfill the Great Commission.
Lives are being eternally changed around the world by the engagement of God’s Word.
Thank you to everyone who is making this possible. Great is your reward in the Kingdom of heaven.
