Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
– Matthew 5:9
Ramon is a police officer – a peacemaker – but his personal life was far from peaceful. He spent so much time at work that his relationships at home were suffering. His wife was distant and his children hardly knew who their father was.
When a friend invited Ramon to attend a Bible listening group in his heart language of Cebuano, he was hesitant at first. For someone of his position, attending a listening group was not a manly choice. The thought made him feel vulnerable and weak. Ramon asked himself, “Why show timidity and expose my weakness before a Bible study group?”
It took a lot of persuading, but his friend prevailed and Ramon agreed to go and hear the Proclaimer. As he listened, Ramon heard Jesus’ words on “true happiness” in the Sermon on the Mount. The words settled into his heart, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
As he continued to listen and ask his own questions, God’s Word exposed Ramon’s loneliness and the deep fear that he was less than the loving husband and father he knew his family needed. That day, he confessed his sins to the Lord in front of the entire group. He made his peace with God and then hurried home to make things right with his family.
Today, Ramon faithfully attends a Bible listening group every week and is making up for lost time with his wife and children. As a husband, father, and police officer, Ramon discovered that the only way to help your family and others find peace is to find it in yourself first.
Faith Comes By Hearing is thankful for churches like Southside Baptist Church (Perryton, TX), Salem Mennonite Church (Munich, ND), Island Evangelical Community Church (Hong Kong), Oceanlake Christian Church (Lincoln City, OR), Shiloh Advent Christian Church (Monroe, NC), and many other churches who support Bible listening groups in the Philippines and around the world that touch the hearts of fathers and bring peace to families.
