Prayer Requests November 2016 - February 2017

Faith Comes By Hearing Family

Thank you for faithfully praying for the health, safety, and protection of our ministry’s leadership, employees and their families, and hundreds of partners in the field worldwide.

As the work of the Lord increases, He continues to provide the right people. Positions were filled for an Audio Processing Editor and two offers are pending to fill the positions of Executive Assistant and HR Staffing Coordinator. In addition, we are partnering with Wycliffe, USA to fill 7-8 positions in the Language Recording and Render areas. Please pray that the new staff members learn their responsibilities and gain knowledge of the ministry quickly; also for guidance in selecting the right people for three additional positions that we are looking to fill in the near future.

Funding Opportunities (both nationally and internationally)

Thank you for continuing to prayer as we reach out to donors and potential donors for help in getting God’s Word to everyone everywhere.

Digital Bible Platform & Global Bible Network

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Thank you for your continued prayers. Along with you, we rejoice for all we have been able to accomplish, reaching far and wide to bring God’s Word to everyone by every means. Please pray for the Lord to help us optimize our efforts, bring peace and clarity as we communicate new avenues of opportunity, as we incorporate the use of emerging technologies in hopes to close the gap for the unconnected. We are thankful for what the Lord will do in the future in order to help people engage with His Word.

Military BibleStick Program

Holiday time is very hard on those serving our country. They are away from family during what should be a special time of celebration. Thank you for continuing to pray for the warriors who are protecting our nation’s freedom; and thank you for providing the gift of God’s Word on the Military BibleStick to them.

Ethiopia: In early October, a state of emergency was declared following months of often violent protests. Internet access (mobile and broadband) was cut or limited and social media was blocked. Curfews and other restrictions have also been put in place. Please pray for peaceful resolution to the conflicts and for the safety of our partners who continue to minister to the people with the Gospel.

Burundi: While tensions remain high, we praise God as our partner reports, “The Word bears fruit! People are thirsty and thanks to the impact of the Faith Comes By Hearing program, we see many people being transformed.” Please continue to pray for an end to the violence and terror; for the refugees who are living in dangerous and difficult conditions; and for protection for our partners and their families.

Central African Republic: Since March 2013, the people have been suffering from a reign of terror that has resulted in thousands being killed and more than 1 million losing their homes. Please continue to pray that peace, healing, and stability would return; and for the provision of desperately needed food, shelter, and medical care.

Mozambique: Praise God! Our partner sends greetings and gratitude! “Faith Comes By Hearing is a blessing for all Mozambican churches and people, for according to government statistics, 48% of the population is illiterate. With the Faith Comes By Hearing program, people interact with God’s Word through the Proclaimers. Churches are growing in faith. This is a wonderful program for all people!”

South Sudan: The United Nations Mission has expressed extreme concern over increased reports of violence and conflict in various parts of the country in the last few weeks. A medical crisis is growing as scores of residents are dying daily. The years of violence have claimed thousands of lives and have caused over a million people to flee. Please pray for those who are suffering, for protection for our partners, and for peace to return.

Argentina: Please pray for the recording team as they begin preparing to record the Toba Sur New Testament.

Bolivia: Please pray that the Proclaimers that are on the way to the Guaraní Simba people will clear customs and be there in a timely manner in order for listening groups to be implemented.

Brazil: Praise God! Eight people groups recently received the Audio Scriptures on Proclaimers and can now begin listening groups in their respective areas.

Colombia: Please pray as Proclaimers are being sent to the Tunebo (Uwa) people for the first time; that they clear customs without difficulties; and that the people will be receptive to the Word of God in their language.

Cuba: Please pray for the Coordinator as he makes arrangements to travel to this country in December and train listening group leaders.

Ecuador: Praise God! Permission to record the Quichua Imbabura New Testament came through! Pray for the recording of the Secoya New Testament and for the speakers of this language in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Guatemala: Please pray for the recordings of the Chajul Ixil New Testament and the Akateko Old Testament Pentateuch.

Guyana: Praise the Lord! The Akawaio now have the Audio New Testament in their possession and listening groups are being implemented in the remote places where they live.

Paraguay: Please pray for the listening groups taking place in schools across the country; also for listening groups being planned in the Lengua Sur (Enxet) language.

Peru: Please pray as the files for the Yine New Testament field recording are on their way to the USA. Please also pray for the recording of the Maijuna Old Testament selections and New Testament books.

Bangladesh: Please continue to pray for the people working throughout the country to bring His Word to so many people who need to know of His saving grace.

India: Thank you for praying for the Program Developer who was working with pastors and churches on one of the islands in the Andaman’s when she was falsely accused of multiple accounts of breaking the law. There has been no word since she was detained and sent back to Mainland India to await a court hearing. Please pray that this case would be resolved quickly and settled without any further action taken against her. Even in the midst of this situation and waiting for the results, this servant continues to praise God for the opportunity to serve Him!

Please pray for a new partnership between ShareWord (formerly Gideon’s of Canada) and Faith Comes By Hearing to provide the Koya printed Bible (last printed in 2000 in a limited quantity) and Audio Bibles to pastors eagerly awaiting these tools to increase their service for the Kingdom.

Indonesia: The teams in this country are able to record up to 15 New Testaments annually, creating great impact on the lives of the people who speak these languages - mostly unbelievers and unreached. Please continue to pray as we figure out which recording projects to pursue and in what order; to find partners who share the vision to reach everyone everywhere with God’s Word in audio; for open doors as the Holy Spirit leads; for safety for the teams as they travel; for them to find the best contacts, the best voice talents, and for continued community support that will result in efficient recording projects; for God to touch the lives of those involved.

Praise God and thank you for praying! One recording in the rural areas of Papua, Indonesia that has been bogged down by disputes over dialect has been completed. The recording team returned to the area in June and re-recorded the lines for two main characters, resolving the dialect issue. The field recording is now in our studios and will be released soon. Please pray that this recording and another in a neighboring language will impact the speakers who live in remote villages in Papua.

Praise God! Several recordings scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year are now underway (one in Malaysia and two in Indonesia). Please pray that these projects will continue with no problems and that God’s Word in these languages will have positive impact on the hearers.

Thank you for praying for the Program Manager who has been going through thyroid cancer treatments. He is now cancer free and once again traveling and implementing Faith Comes By Hearing listening programs. The Language Recording Coordinator and Asia Director just visited him and found that he is recovering nicely. Please continue to pray for full healing, energy, and recovery as he does his work throughout the country.

Nepal: Praise God! The Sherpa recording is complete and will soon be used in discipleship and evangelism throughout the region. Please continue to pray for the recording of the revised Newari New Testament.

Papua New Guinea: Thank you for praying for the Sudest recording. It was completed in October. Please pray that it will be well received among the speakers.

A successful joint recording pilot project with SIL-PNG and their Scripture Use Media (SU Media) department to record the Gwahatike New Testament took place during August and September. If all goes well, Faith Comes By Hearing will be able to continue the partnership with SU Media, saving time and money while continuing to provide high-quality Scripture recordings in Papua New Guinea’s many vernacular languages. Please pray for favor and success as Faith Comes By Hearing endeavors to do more joint recordings in partnership with SU Media.

Philippines: Please pray that all details will fall into place as staff and partners finalize the 2017 recording schedule. Please also pray for safety for the Bible Society workers as they travel; and openness to the Scriptures as they implement listening groups throughout the region.

Solomon Islands: Thank you for praying! Two qualified candidates are now in training to become a recording team to do recordings in their home country. Their first project will be the Fataleka New Testament and will begin in late October. Please pray that this team will excel and become competent and skilled in doing the recording work; the Audio Scriptures have great impact in this country.

Sri Lanka: Praise God! He is doing great and wonderful things in this country. A large group of pastors and others have been giving what they can from their humble means to help fund Audio Bible devices for other countries. As they listen and share His Word with others, hearts are touched and changed.

Thailand: Please pray for pastors who recently attended Faith Comes By Hearing Bible listening training. They will take what they learned back to their communities and neighboring Myanmar. Some of these areas are sensitive and they need prayer for safety and for the people to be open to the Gospel.

Vanuatu: A Virtual Recording project of the Old Testament in Bislama is currently underway. Please pray that the readers will be diligent to complete this project in a smooth, efficient, and timely manner, and that the recording will bear much fruit in this Melanesian society.

As King Solomon was about to begin the construction of the Temple, he called on God to provide the talent needed (2 Chronicles 2: 5-7a). Please pray with us in that same spirit: The house that [we are about] to build will be great, for our God is greater than all gods. But who is able to build him a house, since heaven, even highest heaven, cannot contain him? Who [are we] to build a house for him, except as a place to make offerings before him? So now send [us partners] skilled to work [in sharing your word, leading people to Christ and making disciples].

Europe: The influx of refugees has momentarily come to a halt; but those who are already in the region are in limbo, not resettled. The good in this is that the ministries working with them now have time to disciple them. So, please continue to pray that we would be able to connect with partners who are discipling these refugees; for Christians working along the fenced borders distributing BibleSticks to Afghan, Syrian, and Iraqi refugees; for divine appointments to minister eternal hope to these people whose physical and economic hopes have been dashed.

Russia: Praise God for the completion of two New Testament recordings that were done in the heart of the southern region of this nation where the majority population is of another faith. Please pray that God will provide on-the-ground partners that can engage people with the Audio Bible.

Please pray that we will be able to get BibleSticks and Mini Proclaimers into the Balkar Region of the Caucasus Mountains of Russia.

Because of the extreme difficulty in working in the following regions, language and country names have been changed or omitted to protect our partners and their workers.

Middle East: Please pray for more on-the-ground partners who can make the Audio Bible available to those who are seeking spiritual answers, asking questions about Christianity, and coming to faith in Christ as a result of the violence in the region.

Please pray for a project being developed that will ultimately help people receive God’s Word on their smartphone without the need for an Internet connection; that the right partners will come alongside to assist with the development of the hardware and software needed to accomplish this.

Pakistan: Praise God for the many listening groups now forming all over the country! Continue to pray for the safety of the workers and for the participants; for protection from the violence inflicted upon Christians by members of the majority faith. Please pray that as we consider new ministry partners within this country that the Spirit will help us separate the sheep from the goats.

Please pray that God would continue to grant us favor with partners who license the Bible texts so we can be empowered to do more recordings for the forgotten people groups in the MENA region.

Christian Leaders: Please pray that leaders in the Body of Christ - local, national, and international - will come to understand the incredible power of mother-tongue Scripture recordings for evangelism and discipleship, and ultimately endorse the widespread use of these recordings in their respective ministries and beyond.

Faith Comes By HearingField Coordinators: Please continue to pray for these hard-working, faithful people as they travel in their respective regions to do listening group training and follow-up; as they encourage partners and listening group leaders to promote Scripture engagement; for their health and safety; for strength as they are in the midst of a spiritual battlefield; and for their families.

Recordings & Teams (Field and Virtual): Thank you for continuing to pray for the diligent work of our translation partners, recording teams, and studio workers so Scriptures can be available for those who need to know that God speaks their language.

  • Audio Bibles being recorded: 26 on-location, 10 online
  • Audio Bibles being processed in-studio: 29 field recordings, 4 virtual recording, 11 other
  • wisdom in finding the right participants and in selecting the most efficient and effective methods
  • health, stamina, and protection for the teams, readers, proofreaders, and all of their families
  • Audio Bibles to have an impact on the lives of the people who listen in their own languages

Shipments: Thank you for continuing to pray for shipments of Proclaimers that are en route - for them to be kept safe during transit, to clear customs, and to be received by our partners in a timely manner.

Partnerships: Thank you for your prayers! We are encouraged and excited as new partnerships are being formed and God’s Word is made available to more people groups in the world.
