Prayer Requests August 2016

Faith Comes By Hearing Family

Thank you for faithfully praying for the health, safety, and protection of our ministry’s leadership, employees and their families, and hundreds of partners in the field worldwide.

As the work of the Lord increases, He continues to provide the right people. We recently filled 5 positions: Aerospace Program Manager; Aerospace Administrative Assistant; Audio Processing Editor I; Communications Print Project Coordinator; and Software Programmer. Please pray that the new staff members learn their responsibilities and gain knowledge of the ministry quickly; also for guidance in selecting the right people for three additional positions that we are looking to fill in the near future.

Funding Opportunities (both nationally and internationally)

Thank you for continuing to prayer as we reach out to donors and potential donors for help in getting God’s Word to everyone everywhere.

Digital Bible Platform & Global Bible Network

Thank you for your prayers as we reach far and wide with many digital initiatives to bring God’s Word to everyone by every means. Thank you for continuing to pray as we seek godly insight and clarity while investigating emerging technologies; developing the right technology that will help close the gap for those who are unconnected and semi-connected in accessing God’s Word.

Thank you also for praying as we work to support and grow our existing technologies that are powered by the Digital Bible Platform. Diligently working together with multiple teams, the Innovation Lab is establishing new ways to engage with, invest in, and promote these platforms best. Please pray that we can optimize our efforts, communicate clearly, and find new avenues with which to intensify our digital exposure of God’s Word.

Military BibleStick Program

We are quickly approaching the 15th anniversary of active-duty deployment. Thank you for praying for the warriors who are protecting our nation’s freedom; and for the provision of the Military BibleStick to provide them with the peace, comfort, and hope of God’s Word.

El Niño is causing famine in many African countries this year. Food crises, shortages of water, and outbreaks of disease are rampant. Millions in East Africa are already in need of food assistance, with at least 11 million children facing starvation; drought in some countries is the worst since 1982. These statistics are staggering, but we know each person is loved by God. Please continue to pray that both bread for their stomachs and the Bread of Life would help sustain them.

Burundi: Tensions remain high and over 250,000 people have fled because of the violence. Please continue to pray for an end to the violence and terror; for the refugees who are living in dangerous and difficult conditions; and for protection for our partners and their families.

Central African Republic: Since March 2013, the people have been suffering from a reign of terror that has resulted in thousands being killed and more than 1 million losing their homes. Please continue to pray that peace, healing, and stability would return; and for the provision of desperately needed food, shelter, and medical care.

Gambia: Our in-country partner reports, By the grace of God 75 Proclaimers were received in March and will be distributed in the next quarter. There are 150 listening groups in 130 locations. Please pray that the church leaders would promote the listening program inside and outside the church; that children would be drawn to the program; for travel mercies for the promoters; and that God’s presence would be evident in the groups.

Mali: Brothers and sisters send this prayer request: We need your prayers since the threat of [terrorism] is still present. The group circulates in town and no one dares denounce them. We feel as if we are in the lion’s mouth; but like Daniel, we continue to have faith in God. Pray also for the health of our families and for the Lord’s protection on each of us. Finally, please pray for all those who are hearing the Good News in their language, whether on Proclaimers, SD cards in their phones, or on the local FM radio [station].

South Sudan: In early July, a violent flare-up of tensions erupted, killing hundreds of people and thousands fleeing with renewed fears of a return to civil war. Praise God our partners have reported that they were spared from this. Please pray for those who are suffering; for protection for our partners; that the fragile peace would hold firm; for wisdom as to whether the evacuees should return; and direction for the partners as to what they should do next.

Zambia: Please pray for peace during the elections that will occur during the next two months.

Bolivia: Please pray that the final mixing and editing of the Guaraní Simba recording goes smoothly so the Audio Scriptures can be sent to the people on Proclaimers very soon. Please pray for the Tacana people who are now listening to God’s Word in their language for the first time - that their lives would be transformed for the Kingdom.

Brazil: Please pray for new listening groups that were recently implemented among eight people groups; also for recordings to be done using translations of Scripture already completed.

Colombia: Please pray as listening groups in several languages begin in August and September; for our Regional Coordinator as he travels to provide training for field partners and listening group leaders.

Cuba: Please pray for Proclaimers and other materials that are en route to get through customs in a timely manner so 800 new listening groups can begin.

Ecuador: Praise God! The Quichua Cañar field recording is complete and will be arriving in our studios soon for final mixing. Please pray for Proclaimers that are en route so listening groups in 10 languages can be implemented.

Guatemala: Please pray for the recording teams as they complete the recording, mixing, and editing of the Old Testament Pentateuch in Awakateko and Ixil Nebaj.

Guyana: Please pray for new listening groups that will be implemented soon, especially for the Akawaio as they receive the Audio Scriptures for the first time.

Mexico: Several New Testament recordings are in process. Please pray for God’s hand to be on them; and for the health and safety of the participants. Pray for peace in the state of Oaxaca as there has been a lot of unrest and demonstrations in and around the capitol city.

Paraguay: Pray for the Lengua Sur (Enxet) people who will soon receive God’s Word in audio for the first time; for their hearts to be open and receptive.

Peru: Please pray that the lives of the Sharanahua, Kakataibo, and Culina people would be touched and changed as they listen to God’s Word in audio for the very first time.

Bangladesh: In early July, families (mostly foreigners) lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks. Although we have not received any reports of partners or their families being affected, the Bible Society is asking for prayer as things are very tense. Please pray for this situation and for the people grieving over the loss of their loved ones - there is much tension and fear in the city.

India: Please pray as we have another opportunity to visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands that we do not want to miss - it has been difficult to accomplish much there in the past few years. But now our programs in this area have come under attack.

The Program Developer was working with pastors and churches on one of the islands when false accusations were leveled against her despite her being open and honest about the work she was doing. The police are now under scrutiny because a lawyer has brought to light the way they handled the situation and it may take up to five years for the case to be finalized. Long days of interrogation and extreme stress caused her to be hospitalized for several days. Please pray for her physical healing and that this case would quickly come to an end; also for God’s Word to continue to go forth despite the enemy’s tactics. Even in the midst of her situation, she praises God because she has seen His Light begin to dispel the darkness!

Please continue to pray as God opens doors to provide His Word to the second-largest population in the world - many issues come against them. One new believer told us recently: I am a college student and was not having regular Bible reading; but with the Proclaimer I get a chance to listen when I have free time. The one Scripture that touched my heart is Matthew 11:28 - “Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” This verse caused me to walk closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. After I listened, I went for 15 days of Bible training and was baptized.

Indonesia: The teams in this country are able to record up to 15 New Testaments annually, creating great impact on the lives of the people who speak these languages - mostly unbelievers and unreached. Please pray as we figure out which recording projects to pursue and in what order; to find partners who share the vision to reach everyone everywhere with God’s Word in audio; for open doors as the Holy Spirit leads; for safety for the teams as they travel; for them to find the best contacts, the best voice talents, and for continued community support that will result in efficient recording projects; for God to touch the lives of those involved.

Praise God and thank you for praying! One recording in the rural areas of Papua, Indonesia, that has been bogged down by disputes over dialect has been completed. The recording team returned to the area in June and re-recorded the lines for two main characters, resolving the dialect issue. Please pray that this recording will be finalized without encountering any further problems, and that it will have great impact once the people start listening.

Praise God! Several recordings scheduled for the fourth quarter of this year are ready to go with agreements and texts in hand. Please pray that the teams would be able to finish their current projects in time to do the projects coming up in the fourth quarter.

Praise God and thank you for praying! The Program Manager is finally getting back into field work this month (July). He is slowly recovering from multiple surgeries on a tumor in his thyroid. Please continue to pray for full healing, energy, and recovery as he does his work throughout the country.

Myanmar: We were blessed to have the General Secretary of the Bible Society visit the ministry. Please pray for him and upcoming Kingdom-building programs soon to be implemented. The programs were previously started but had to be discontinued. Now, the Lord has made a way for them to begin again.

Nepal: Please pray for upcoming new recordings to take place this year: New Testaments in Newari and Sherpa will be done in the next six months. Along with the translation organizations, we are very excited to have these on the schedule.

Papua New Guinea: Thank you for praying for the Omwunra Toqura New Testament recording. It is complete and in our studio for final mastering. Please pray that this process will go smoothly and that the community will be excited to have listening groups implemented.

A joint recording pilot project with Scripture Union Media to record the Gwahatike New Testament will take place in August. If all goes well, there is the potential to save time and money while continuing to provide high-quality Scripture recordings in this country’s vernacular languages. Please pray that the recording is a success and for opportunities to do more joint recordings with them.

Praise God! Thank you for praying for the Melpa New Testament field recording. It is now complete and in our studio for final mixing and mastering. Please pray that we will receive the required final consultant approvals before releasing the recording.

Please continue to pray for our Recording Manager as he oversees several recording teams; safety when he travels to implement listening groups in the 13+ languages that have been recorded for the people in those areas; for his family while he is away from home; and for his labor to bear much fruit.

Philippines: Please pray for four new recordings planned for this year - Central Ifugao (field recording is completed), Palanan, Agta, Bantoanon, and Romblomanon - that the hearts and lives of those who listen will be changed. Please also pray for safety for the Bible Society workers as they travel; and openness to the Scriptures as they implement listening groups throughout the region.

Solomon Islands: Thank you for praying! The team from the Philippines that went to record the Roviana has completed the field recording; it is on its way to our studio now. Please pray that there will not be any problems during this final process and that the Roviana-speaking people will benefit spiritually from hearing the Scriptures.

Please pray for God to bring to the forefront the members for a new recording team and a suitable opportunity to train them. There are 16 more New Testaments that have been translated and waiting to be recorded.

Sri Lanka: Please pray for the Regional Manager as he travels in this region to provide Audio Scriptures to church workers who are seeing hundreds of people come to faith.

Thailand: Exciting, new opportunities are coming this year through strong partnerships. Please pray as the Lord knows what is needed. More to come later . . .

There seems to be no end to the war and civil unrest in the Middle East . . . yet God says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). But just as in Acts chapter 8, God has been using the turmoil and persecution to bring about the growth of His Church.

Europe: The influx of refugees has momentarily come to a halt; but those who are already in the region are in limbo, not resettled. The good in this is that the ministries working with them now have time to disciple them. So, please continue to pray that we would be able to connect with partners who are discipling these refugees; for Christians working along the fenced borders distributing BibleSticks to Afghan, Syrian, and Iraqi refugees; for divine appointments to minister eternal hope to these people whose physical and economic hopes have been dashed.

Because of the extreme difficulty in working in the following regions, language and country names have been changed or omitted to protect our partners and their workers.

Please pray that we will be able to get BibleSticks and Mini Proclaimers into the Balkar Region of the Caucasus Mountains of Russia.

Caucasus Region: Praise Him for the completion of the New Testament recording in the “Z” language. Pray that God would provide a partner on the ground to make His Word available to the speakers of this language.

Middle East: Please pray for more on-the-ground partners who can make the Audio Bible available to those who are seeking spiritual answers, asking questions about Christianity, and coming to faith in Christ as a result of the violence in the region.

Please pray for a project being developed that will ultimately help people receive God’s Word on their smartphone without the need for an Internet connection; for the equipment and software being developed, partners to stay motivated, materials en route so the launch of the test project will take place as planned.

Pakistan: Praise God for the many listening groups now forming all over the country! Continue to pray for the safety of the workers and for the participants; for protection from the violence inflicted upon Christians by members of the majority faith.

Christian Leaders: Please pray that leaders in the Body of Christ - local, national, and international - will come to understand the incredible power of mother-tongue Scripture recordings for evangelism and discipleship, and ultimately endorse the widespread use of these recordings in their respective ministries and beyond.

FCBH Field Coordinators: Please continue to pray for these hard-working, faithful people as they travel in their respective regions to do listening group training and follow-up; as they encourage partners and listening group leaders to promote Scripture engagement; for their health and safety; for strength as they are in the midst of a spiritual battlefield; and for their families.

Recordings & Teams (Field and Virtual): Thank you for continuing to pray for the diligent work of our translation partners, recording teams, and studio workers so Scriptures can be available for those who need to know that God speaks their language.

  • Audio Bibles being recorded: 19 on-location, 6 online
  • Audio Bibles being processed in-studio: 38 field recordings, 1 virtual recording, 11 other
  • wisdom in finding the right participants and in selecting the most efficient and effective methods
  • health, stamina, and protection for the teams, readers, proofreaders, and all of their families
  • Audio Bibles to have an impact on the lives of the people who listen in their own languages

Shipments: Thank you for continuing to pray for shipments of Proclaimers that are en route - for them to be kept safe during transit, to clear customs, and to be received by our partners in a timely manner.

Partnerships: Thank you for your prayers! We are encouraged and excited as new partnerships are being formed and God’s Word is made available to more people groups in the world.

Thank you for your prayer support!
