Pray With Us: November 2017 - January 2018
Faith Comes By Hearing Family

Thank you for faithfully praying for the health, safety, and protection of our ministry’s leadership, employees and their families, and hundreds of partners in the field worldwide.

Thank the Lord for His provision of qualified staff at the right time. Render Technical Support Specialist was filled by someone with lots of technical support experience; Major Donor Representative was filled by a former employee in the same position who stepped back into the position almost seamlessly; Text Processor was filled by someone who loves Scripture and languages; Event Planner was filled by someone who brings lots of experience in planning corporate events; General Donor Representative was filled by someone who loves talking to people and sharing the ministry’s vision; Temporary Production staff positions were filled by two people who have a heart for the ministry; Production Assembly Technician I was filled by someone who has previously helped in this area, enabling a smooth transition; Copywriter was filled by someone with extensive experience in email marketing. Please pray that the Lord provides the right people to join us in the positions of: Render Training Coordinator, Render Support Software Programmer, Communications Print Project Coordinator, and Video Producer. Also, continue to pray for all the new staff as they learn their responsibilities and gain knowledge of the ministry.

Funding Opportunities (both nationally and internationally)

Thank you for continuing to pray as we reach out to donors and potential donors for help in getting God’s Word to everyone everywhere.

Global Bible Network

Thank you for your prayers! Single-language mobile app building and distribution is going well. SIL has provided a great boost by sharing 560 of their apps (which we can customize according to our license agreements). These apps feature text highlighting that is synchronized with audio playback, which involves some manual tuning along with an automatic tool. Please pray that God will give us success as we work to maximize the automation while minimizing manual efforts. The apps are distributed to users via a portable Wi-Fi hub. The hub we currently use is effective for small groups, but we are actively investigating higher-capacity hardware. Please pray that God will lead us to the right solution at the right time.

Software Technology

As we work with partners to expand the content and quality of services powering (and other sites and apps), please continue to pray for wisdom, strength, and protection for everyone involved.

Also pray as a new version of Render enters its final phase of testing that it would be a smooth upgrade for existing projects.

As work with SIL on next-generation recording tools continues, please pray for wise balance of proven practices and new ideas, and for the programmers as they learn new tools.

Military BibleStick Program

Thank you for continuing to pray for the provision of God’s Word on the Military BibleStick, especially during the holiday season, and as the year draws to a close.

We rejoice and praise God along with our fellow servants in Africa as they share God’s Word, bringing hope and salvation to the people. One partner recently shared a testimony from a concession owner in Chad: “The Proclaimer is an impressive device. When I played the Audio Scriptures, children who were playing nearby listened and one of them said, Listen! It is Jesus who speaks our language. Come and listen!

Kenya: Our partners are very concerned and ask that we continue to pray for peace and stability as the August 8th election has been nullified and a new election was held October 26th. Recent protests have erupted in violence, destroying property, and the government has banned demonstrations within the central business districts in the larger cities.

Please also pray for other countries that their elections would be peaceful.

This is an important time of year for our partners who are concentrating on raising funds and planning ministry strategy for next year. Please pray for wisdom and provision as they move forward as the Lord leads them.

They are all being impacted by the recent earthquakes the Mixe Totontepec recording is nearly complete, but the reader is unable to leave his village because the roads are blocked; the technician is headed to the village with his wife and son to complete the Mixteco Apasco-Apoala recording; technicians and readers continue the work on the Guevea de Humboldt Zapotec in the midst of those in the area losing loved ones and homes.

Paraguay: Please pray for the FCBH Coordinator as he travels to the country to conduct listening group training.

Peru: Praise God! The shipment of Proclaimers was released from customs. Please pray that the people in the 20+ language groups will be transformed as they listen to the Word of God in their heart languages.

Thank you for your prayers! Since the last update, partnerships in Asia have been strengthened, new ones have developed, and multiple in-country partners have begun networking together to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Bangladesh: Praise God! The meetings with the Bible Society that took place in September show promise of new opportunities for implementing Global Bible Hubs and microSD cards in 2018. Please pray for the discussions to be fruitful in figuring out how to move forward with this new initiative in reaching people with the Audio Bible.

India: Initial reports from the team that implemented the Global Bible Network pilot programs are extremely positive. More reporting and analysis won’t be available from the programs for another month or so. Discussions and decisions about moving forward are in progress, but all are very excited about the possibilities. Thank you to the team who brought their expertise and diligence in order to implement this phase of the pilot programs.

Please pray! The government continues to implement different strategies in an effort to discourage Christian growth throughout the country. A recent mandate describes multiple acts of violence and other harmful actions to cause Christians to stop spreading God’s Word. Please pray for wisdom and peace for those who will be affected.

Indonesia: Please pray for several FCBH servants traveling in this country to discuss new recording opportunities, and current and future implementation of Bible listening programs that the meetings and discussions will be fruitful according to God’s will.

Thank you for praying! Eight of the thirteen New Testament recordings planned for this year are complete; the field recording files are here in our studio for final mastering. We thank God these recording projects were successfully completed though fluent readers were not always easy to find. Please continue to pray that our recording partners will have successful research trips prior to each recording; for them to find the best contacts and the best voice talents; for continued community support that will result in efficient recording projects; and for God to touch the lives of those involved. Please pray for FCBH personnel and in-country partners as they finalize the recording schedule for 2018.

Laos & Vietnam: Recent meetings in these sensitive locations have opened up some dynamic partnerships, networking among ministries already serving in these regions; and new opportunities to record languages needing to be done. Please pray as these things move forward. More information to come in the near future.

Malaysia: Please pray for a joint partnership opportunity with an in-country organization to create a dedicated recording team that would be able to record the languages spoken in the country.

Papua New Guinea: Thank you for praying for the Central Buang recording. The field recording was completed in June and is in our Albuquerque studio for final mastering. Please pray that the final mastering with music and effects goes smoothly, and that the release of this Audio Bible will result in lives changed for His glory.

Praise God! The joint recording projects between FCBH and Scripture Use Media is going well, having completed a second New Testament recording, Menya, and started a third, Mato. Please pray that these recordings proceed smoothly, and that Faith Comes By Hearing and SU Media will continue to partner well together in future projects.

Solomon Islands: Thank you for praying! Faith Comes By Hearing’s new recording team completed their first project - the Fataleka New Testament - and began working on their second - the Baeggu New Testament. Please pray that the team is able to recover from the challenges faced during their first project so that this second project moves along smoothly, and that they increase their skills in order to complete many more Scripture recordings, resulting in great impact in this country.

During September, the Language Recording Coordinator trained partners on how to implement Faith Comes By Hearing listening groups. One hundred and thirty-five (135) mid-sized Proclaimers were placed among the Arosi-speaking people; an additional 40 in Roviana were given to YWAM missionaries who will train on how to implement listening groups and then place the devices in the region during their outreaches. Please pray that lives will be transformed through these listening groups.

Vanuatu: A Virtual Recording project of the Old Testament in Bislama is currently underway. Please pray that the readers will be diligent to complete this project in a smooth, efficient, and timely manner, and that the recording will bear much fruit in this Melanesian society. The project is currently 80% complete.

Diaspora & Refugees: The refugee situation in Europe continues to change, even though the flow of new refugees into the continent has been curtailed. Pray for more partnerships with ministries working with refugees as we work to implement “A Rapid Response for Refugees” - a project that puts God’s Word into the hands of people fleeing persecution and turmoil in a matter of days instead of weeks or months. Pray for those refugees who are still stuck in the countries of initial entry (Greece, Italy, and Spain) that they would be able to get an Audio New Testament in their heart language. Pray also for access to New Testament texts in German, Dutch, French, Danish, and Norwegian for use in the Global Bible App and A Rapid Response for Refugees. These languages are needed by ministries helping refugees to settle in these countries.

Europe: Praise God for the wonderful dedication of the Euskara (Bosque) New Testament recording and LUMO film project that used the Euskara Gospel of Mark for the narration and voice track on the film. Praise God also for the record high attendance at this event.

Praise God for new relationships being formed with churches in Europe. Pray as the details are worked out to get God’s Word into the hands of each believer; and for favor with the Bible Societies in Serbia, Bulgaria, and Greece that own the rights to the approved texts.

Because of the extreme difficulty in working in the following regions, language and country names have been changed or omitted to protect our partners and their workers.

Central Asia: Pray for official approval of a recording project in one country in this region. The government has already approved the Bible translation, but without approval of the recording project, too, voice actors are afraid to participate.

Caucasus Region (Russia): Continue to pray for new partners working in this region. It has been extremely difficult to find partners who are able to minister to the people here. Recordings of Scripture are being done but very few are getting into the region.

Praise God for allowing us to renew the permission to use a key Arabic translation for Global Bible Network.

Praise God for the expansion of implementing the Global Bible App in these regions.

Praise God that people in a restricted country of North Africa are engaging with Audio Bibles for the first time.

Please pray for an opportunity to partner with one of the oldest and largest traditional churches in the region.

Please pray for the first project with children engaging with the Audio Bible in a traditional church in Egypt that will begin in November that it would bear much fruit, impact the children, and open doors for more opportunities like this.

Please pray for wisdom and discernment as the team explores projects for the Global Bible Network.

Pakistan: Please pray for a pilot project with a major partner and a new local partner to implement Audio Bible listening groups.

Christian Leaders: Please pray that leaders in the Body of Christ - local, national, and international will come to understand the incredible power of mother-tongue Scripture recordings for evangelism and discipleship, and ultimately endorse the widespread use of these recordings in their respective ministries and beyond.

FCBH Program Developers: Please continue to pray for these hard-working, faithful people as they travel in their respective regions to do listening group training and follow-up; as they encourage partners and listening group leaders to promote Scripture engagement; for their health and safety; for strength as they are in the midst of a spiritual battlefield; and for their families.

Recordings & Teams (Field and Virtual): Thank you for continuing to pray for the diligent work of our translation partners, recording teams (45), and studio workers to make Scripture available for those who need to know that God speaks their language.

  • Audio Bibles being recorded: 36 on-location, 18 online
  • Audio Bibles being processed in-studio: 40 field recordings, 2 other
  • wisdom in choosing recording projects; in finding the right participants; and in selecting the most efficient and effective methods
  • health, stamina, and protection for the teams, readers, proofreaders, and all of their families
  • Audio Bibles to have an impact on the lives of the people who listen in their own languages

Render: Praise God for new translation projects underway. Please pray for these projects and the teams working on them:

  • Translation Projects: Six new translation projects were launched in Botswana and Liberia in September; five more will be launching in November (3 in Papua New Guinea, 2 in Ethiopia).
  • Ongoing Projects: Two language groups are nearing the completion of the book of Genesis. Please pray they will finish well and that the Scriptures will have a deep impact on the hearts and lives of those in the community. There are currently 14 active projects.
  • Permissions: for National Bible Societies and other Bible text holders to freely grant permission for the use of their Bibles as a source language in translation projects. The lack of permission has become a barrier to starting some of the projects.
  • Partner relationships: for stability and unity in the midst of changing personnel and roles.
  • New version of Render: for successful testing of version 2.0 that all the problems will be identified and fixed before it is released to the teams.
  • Protection: as the translators, admin, and consultants work on these projects pray that the software works smoothly and for God’s hand to guide them to create accurate translations of His Word.

Partnerships: Thank you for your prayers! Amazing partnerships have been formed and we are excited for what God holds in continuing to provide His Word to everyone everywhere.
