In times like these, you need a Savior.
In times like these, you need an anchor.
Be very sure, be very sure,
your anchor holds and grips the solid Rock!
– George Beverly Shea
Troubled times teach valuable lessons. Being very sure where our hope rests—as the lyrics to “In Times Like These” suggest—is especially significant right now. Even when world conflict stirs painful memories and fears, hope calms our hearts. We need the truth in our ears when the volume of world violence is turned up. What speaks louder than today’s headlines? The timeless Word of God. May you be encouraged by these Bible verses about hope during troubled times.
God and Hope
Psalm 62:5 – “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.”
Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
Hope and Praise
Psalm 42:5 – “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation.”
Persevering in Hope
Hebrews 6:18b-20a – “We who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf.”
Rejoicing in Hope
Romans 12:12 – “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
Troubles and Hope
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Titus 2:13 – “[We wait] for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Pray that in troubled times we will find Jesus to be our anchor and solid rock. Pray that we all may rejoice in hope because Christ has overcome the world.
