Wounded Parents

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
– Psalm 147:3

Each year as we celebrate Father’s Day, we remember the dads who can’t be home because they are away serving our nation. Father’s Day is also a good time to remember a new generation of children and families who are now “on duty” caring for loved ones who returned home with both visible and invisible wounds. This brings the war home to the family’s living room.

Having a “wounded parent” in the home makes life very different. The children and spouse have to learn how to navigate around wounds that they cannot see – traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. Children can’t always be children, avoiding things they fear will make their parent more anxious, such as playing games like hide-and-seek or making any sudden loud noises.

A study by the Caster Family Center for Nonprofit and Philanthropic research found that children in these homes are often more resilient and compassionate than their peers; but they also tend to be more angry, frustrated, and anxious. Many wish their dads could be happy and carefree again, but realize that is not likely to happen. The study also found that many of the support services for veterans and their spouses don’t always reach the needs of the children.

Our goal is to help those who serve our nation and their families by providing God’s Word in audio through Military BibleSticks. Each BibleStick provides one of our nation’s heroes with the entire Audio New Testament, along with Psalms specifically selected to help calm, heal, inspire, and encourage those enduring or recovering from the hardships of military service. Each Military BibleStick kit also includes a card to request free MP3 Bibles for spouses and children, so the entire Military family can be blessed. We are privileged to receive testimonies like these:

This is a wonderful gift. Thank you so much! Now sharing with my family.

Very calming in our everyday chaos. We have 2 special needs girls & I think they will love it, too.

It helped me get closer to God. Thought I had lost Him, but He found me.

Your church can make a difference for our Troops and their families by funding Military BibleSticks. Each gift of $25 provides a Military BibleStick Kit. For more information, visit or call us at (800) 545-6552.

This month, we say thank you to Desert Grace Community (Yuma, AZ), Walnut Hill Nazarene Church (Huntington, WV), Redeemer Lutheran Church (Fremont, MI), Lakeside Baptist Church (Canton, TX), Faith Community Church (Wichita, KS), and over 7,000 other churches who support our Troops by providing God’s Word on Military BibleSticks.
