For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
– 2 Corinthians 4:15
Marie could not find much to be thankful for in the course of her day-to-day existence in the African nation of Togo. The birth of her last child 11 years earlier had left her paralyzed and though Marie and her husband searched for someone who could help her, the paralysis persisted. Her physical problems made Marie feel worthless and her self-esteem plummeted. In addition to the physical problems, Marie began having trouble sleeping because she was plagued by nightmares. These worries left her nervous and irritable all the time.
Marie’s troubled life changed the day a Faith Comes By Hearing partner brought an Audio Bible to her village. She began to listen to God’s Word in Moba Lok, the language she spoke at home with her family. As she listened, Marie was drawn to the words of the Apostle Paul. She could relate to constantly dealing with a painful thorn in the flesh. The words helped Marie realize that God understood her concerns, and just like Paul, He could help her face her daily struggles.
Today, Marie is thankful that the Proclaimer came to her village. She said,
“Since we started listening to the Gospel, a great miracle has taken place in me. First, through the words of Paul, My grace is sufficient for you, I found the answer to my questions. As I meditated on these words, my anger disappeared. I am no longer nervous and, to my amazement, I can walk without crutches and sleep much better without nightmares. It truly is a miracle!”
Marie’s village received one of nearly 300 Moba Lok Audio Bibles that have been provided so far, each reaching as many as 90 or more people with God’s Word. In addition, since the Moba Lok New Testament recording was released in 2013, over 10,000 more people have listened digitally through the Bible.is app and podcasts. Each person, like Marie, is thankful for God’s gifts, thankful that God sent His Son, and that He loves them enough to speak their language.
Faith Comes By Hearing is thankful for churches like Lakewood United Methodist Church (Houston, TX), Grace Chapel (Wilcox, AZ), Harvest Fellowship (Artesia, NM), Redeemer Lutheran Church (Claremore, OK), and Faith Bible Church (Little Genesee, NY) who are helping people like Marie discover the gift of God’s Son this Christmas.
