Prayer Requests February 2017 - May 2017

Faith Comes By Hearing Family

Thank you for faithfully praying for the health, safety, and protection of our ministry’s leadership, employees and their families, and hundreds of partners in the field worldwide.

As we continue to work with our partners to record 1,000 more languages within the next six years, the Lord continues to provide the right people. Three positions were recently filled: Lead Text Processor was filled by a previous volunteer to the ministry; Major Donor Representative was filled by a staff member who will be working from Kansas City; Render Project Coordinator was filled by a seconded Wycliffe staff member (our second). Please pray that the Lord would provide the right person to join us in the role of Web Applications Developer. Also pray for the new staff members as they learn their responsibilities and gain knowledge of the ministry.

Funding Opportunities (both nationally and internationally)

Thank you for continuing to prayer as we reach out to donors and potential donors for help in getting God’s Word to everyone everywhere.

Digital Bible Platform & Global Bible Network

Please pray for blessed relationships with key Global Bible Network partners SIL International and Renew World Outreach. We are working together to enhance SIL’s Scripture App Builder tool in order to distribute the resulting lightweight, shareable apps at upcoming events in the Middle East and Central Asia.

Military BibleStick Program

As we remember the four chaplains who gave their own life vests to save the lives of many of the men aboard the Dorchester in February 1943, we are also reminded of the 1,900 chaplains we work with today who continue to provide life to the Troops through God’s Word on the Military BibleStick. Thank you for continuing to pray for the warriors who are protecting our nation’s freedom; and thank you for providing the gift of God’s Word on the Military BibleStick to them.

We are very blessed to work with nearly 50 partners in over 29 African countries. As they strive to minister to the people and promote Scripture engagement in their respective countries, each partner faces unique challenges, often beyond what we can imagine. In spite of things like political instability, war, famine, outbreaks of disease, natural disasters, and persecution, these partners persevere in their work for the Lord, sacrificing and pushing forward toward the goal of providing God’s Word to everyone everywhere. Thank you for praying for them!

One partner tells us how the Audio Scriptures are impacting and transforming the lives of those who listen: “I was full of worries; and had the Proclaimer not come, I would have died. But now, whether or not I have a person by my side, with the Proclaimer I have someone Who is always with me. That is why I call the Proclaimer the device that lengthens the days of the discouraged people on earth.” We are truly inspired and honored to serve with partners who are such dedicated members of the Body of Christ. The Lord is indeed alive and moving mightily in Africa!

Argentina: Please pray for the recording team as they begin preparing to record the Toba Sur New Testament early this year.

Bolivia: Please pray that the Guaraní Simba people will respond to hearing God’s Word on Proclaimers that are going to many villages.

Brazil: Please pray that the ministries that are part of the Brazil Recording Alliance would do Scripture recordings this year. One of the first will be the Ka’apor. Pray as the team works to identify the readers.

Colombia: Please pray for the Tunebo (Uwa) people to be receptive to hearing God’s Word as Proclaimers arrive in the area for the first time; for the ministry working in this difficult area. Please also pray for the recording team as they work with communities to plan the New Testament recordings of Muinane and Tatuyo.

Cuba: Praise God - 7,000 listening groups have been formed in all provinces of this island nation! Please pray for the 800 new listening groups that are being implemented.

Ecuador: Please pray as the recording team makes plans to record the Siona New Testament spoken in this country and neighboring Colombia.

Guatemala: Please pray for the Pentateuch recordings of Kiché and Mam that will begin soon.

Mexico: Please pray for listening groups that have recently started in nearly 12 languages in the State of Oaxaca; and for another shipment of Proclaimers on its way from Mexico City to Mitla.

Paraguay: Please pray for the listening groups taking place in schools across the country; also for listening groups being planned in the Lengua Sur (Enxet) language for March.

Peru: Please pray as the team begins recording the Quechua Ambo Pasco New Testament and makes plans to record the Caquinte New Testament.

Please pray for the Asia Area Director who will be traveling to India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and SK during February and March. He will be attending meetings with translation organizations and field partners to discuss hopes and dreams for 2017.

India: Thank you for praying! The new partnership between ShareWord and Faith Comes By Hearing got off to a good start at a launch last December where print Bibles and Audio Bibles were given to an estimated 500 pastors. ShareWord also provided the first 100 devices containing the Koya Audio Bible to our in-country partner India Evangelical Mission. We are thankful that ShareWord allowed us to be part of this exciting venture. Please pray that the requests for more Audio Bibles are able to be fulfilled and sent to pastors to use in their church’s listening programs.

Indonesia: Thank you for praying! The teams in this country are able to record up to 15 New Testaments annually, creating great impact on the lives of the people who speak these languages - mostly unbelievers and unreached. All of the New Testament field recordings scheduled for the fourth quarter 2016 were completed and are now in the Faith Comes By Hearing studio for final mastering and editing. Please continue to pray for open doors to find partners who share the vision to reach everyone everywhere with God’s Word in audio; for community support that will result in efficient recording projects; and for God to touch the lives of those involved.

Thank you for praying about the planning of Faith Comes By Hearing’s 2017 recording schedule. There are 13 New Testament recordings planned for this year. Please continue to pray that our recording partners will have successful research trips prior to each recording; for them to find the best contacts and the best voice talents; and for continued community support that will result in efficient recording projects; for God to touch the lives of those involved.

Praise God and thank you for praying! One recording in the rural areas of Papua, Indonesia that had been bogged down by disputes over dialect has been completed. The recording team returned to the area in June and re-recorded the lines for two main characters, resolving the dialect issue. The field recording was released in December. Please pray that this recording and another in a neighboring language will impact the speakers who live in remote villages in Papua; five additional New Testament recordings scheduled to be done this year would be completed smoothly.

Thank you for praying for the Program Manager who has been going through thyroid cancer treatments. He is now cancer free and once again traveling and implementing FCBH listening programs. The Language Recording Coordinator and Asia Director visited him recently and found that he is recovering nicely. Please continue to pray for full healing, energy, and recovery as he does his work throughout the country.

Papua New Guinea: Thank you for praying for the Sudest recording. Shortly after it was completed in October, one of the main readers died suddenly of heart failure. The New Testament recording was the last service he offered to the Lord and His people in Sudest. Please pray that the Lord would comfort his family; also that the Sudest men and women will be encouraged and their lives changed as a result of the Audio Bible listening groups that will be started this year.

Praise God - Faith Comes By Hearing participated in a successful joint recording pilot project with SIL-PNG and their Scripture Use Media (SU Media) department! SU Media recorded the Gwahatike New Testament, and the field recording is now in the Faith Comes By Hearing studio to receive music and sound effects. The two partners will attempt to do three more New Testament projects this year. Please pray that these recordings would go well; and that Faith Comes By Hearing and SU Media could continue to partner together in future projects.

Philippines: Please pray that all details will fall into place as staff and partners finalize the 2017 recording schedule. Please also pray for successful travels for the Language Recording Coordinator as he meets with teams and field partners who are implementing Bible listening programs.

Solomon Islands: Thank you for praying! Faith Comes By Hearing trained a new recording team in the final quarter of 2016. Please pray that this team will excel and become competent and skilled in doing the work. They are currently recording the Fataleka New Testament. When complete, they will move on to the next language, Baeggu. Please pray that the Audio Scriptures will have great impact in this country.

Last year, one hundred Mini Proclaimers were placed among the Arosi-speaking villages on Makira Island. We have received reports that the Word of God is being received joyfully! The Program Coordinator says, “It helps those who are blind . . . and those who are not able to read and write . . . to grow up in their Christian life.” Please pray that these programs will have great impact among the people; and that we are able to work with partners to provide more Audio Bibles to serve the 6,750 Arosi speakers.

Thailand: Please pray for pastors who recently attended Faith Comes By Hearing Bible listening training. They will take what they learned back to their communities and neighboring Myanmar. Some of these areas are sensitive and they need prayer for safety and for the people to be open to the Gospel.

Vanuatu: A Virtual Recording project of the Old Testament in Bislama is currently underway. Please pray that the readers will be diligent to complete this project in a smooth, efficient, and timely manner, and that the recording will bear much fruit in this Melanesian society.

Eurasia: As refugees continue to migrate into Europe (albeit at a greatly reduced rate) the ministries working with them now have the time to disciple them. Please continue to pray that we would be able to connect with these partners who are discipling them; for divine appointments to minister eternal hope to those whose physical and economic hopes have been dashed; and for Christians working along the fenced borders distributing BibleSticks to Afghan, Syrian, and Iraqi refugees.

Russia: Praise God for the completion of two New Testament recordings that were done in the heart of the southern region of this nation where the majority population is of another faith. Please pray that God will provide on-the-ground partners that can engage people with the Audio Bible.

Please pray that we will be able to get BibleSticks and Mini Proclaimers into the Balkar Region of the Caucasus Mountains of Russia.

Please pray for many new partnerships in Central Asia as we are seeing new opportunities and new Bible recordings now (or soon to be) available in this region.

Because of the extreme difficulty in working in the following regions, language and country names have been changed or omitted to protect our partners and their workers.

Middle East: On March 21st, Iranians the world over will celebrate the Persian New Year called Nowruz, and will be traveling to other countries for the celebration. Because of close proximity, cultural and religious similarities, and economical accommodations, Istanbul, Turkey and Baku, Azerbaijan are two of the top destinations for the Nowruz travelers. Over the past few years, two partners in the region have made concerted efforts to meet these travelers and engage them in conversations about Jesus and the good news of the Gospel. When a traveler expresses interest in knowing more about Jesus, they receive a small gift bag filled with some treats, Gospel tracts and micro-SD cards with FCBH’s Farsi (Persian) Audio New Testament, the JESUS film, and other Christian literature. Please pray that God will create divine appointments for these tireless workers and that the hearts of the travelers will be prepared to receive Jesus.

Praise God for answers to prayer and thank you for praying! New on-the-ground partners are emerging all across the Middle East and North Africa. Please continue to pray as two FCBH workers will be meeting with nearly 300 Christian workers at a conference in February; that God would bring to our attention those workers He wants us to partner with to bring His Word to the largest spiritual and physical desert in the world.

Continue to pray for a project being developed that will ultimately help people receive God’s Word on their smartphones without the need for an Internet connection. Praise God for the collaboration and progress we have experienced so far!

Pakistan: Praise God for the many listening groups now forming all over the country! Continue to pray for the safety of the workers and for the participants; for protection from the violence inflicted upon Christians by members of the majority faith. Please pray that as we consider new ministry partners within this country that the Spirit will help us separate the sheep from the goats.

Please pray that God would continue to grant us favor with partners who license the Bible texts so we can be empowered to do more recordings for the forgotten people groups in the MENA region.

Christian Leaders: Please pray that leaders in the Body of Christ - local, national, and international - will come to understand the incredible power of mother-tongue Scripture recordings for evangelism and discipleship, and ultimately endorse the widespread use of these recordings in their respective ministries and beyond.

FCBH Field Coordinators: Please continue to pray for these hard-working, faithful people as they travel in their respective regions to do listening group training and follow-up; as they encourage partners and listening group leaders to promote Scripture engagement; for their health and safety; for strength as they are in the midst of a spiritual battlefield; and for their families.

Recordings & Teams (Field and Virtual): Thank you for continuing to pray for the diligent work of our translation partners, recording teams (44), and studio workers so Scriptures can be available for those who need to know that God speaks their language.

  • Audio Bibles being recorded: 16 on-location, 17 online
  • Audio Bibles being processed in-studio: 32 field recordings, 3 virtual recording, 20 other
  • wisdom in choosing recording projects; in finding the right participants; and in selecting the most efficient and effective methods
  • health, stamina, and protection for the teams, readers, proofreaders, and all of their families
  • Audio Bibles to have an impact on the lives of the people who listen in their own languages

Render: In partnership with Seed Company and Pioneer Bible Translators over the last three years, this fully oral Bible translation software is now being used to translate the Bible, essentially allowing the translation and recording to happen at the same time. Please pray for these projects and 30+ others to be started this year:

  • Chibi in Brazil: the family doing this work has recently suffered the loss of a loved one; endurance and perseverance as they continue the work of translating the Bible for their people
  • Ma’di South in Uganda: that the Audio Scriptures being created will change the hearts of those living in this community
  • Unnamed Language in Tanzania: that the translators would remember the details as they progress; for unity among the believers in the area
  • Unnamed Language in the Middle East North Africa: for God to keep the team safe as they risk their lives to get God’s Word to their people; and that they would remember all the details from the training

Shipments: Thank you for continuing to pray for shipments of Proclaimers that are en route - for them to be kept safe during transit, to clear customs, and to be received by our partners in a timely manner.

Partnerships: Thank you for your prayers! We are encouraged and excited as new partnerships are being formed and God’s Word is made available to more people groups in the world.
