Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
– Matthew 7:7
“While we were at church, someone broke in and stole everything we own!”
Why didn’t God protect our family? Axelle couldn’t understand. Why now? Why this? Everything they had was gone. She felt violated and disappointed. Why had God abandoned them?
She had been going to church for a long time, but recently she joined a Bible listening group. Hearing God’s Word in Lokpa, her heart language, was helping her and her family understand the Gospel. Still, she struggled to comprehend God’s purpose in this.
Then, Axelle thought of something. In the listening group, she had heard about how people exercised their faith and God answered their prayers. “I know,” she told her children. “Let’s pray and ask the Lord to help us get our things back! Jesus said, Ask, and it will be given to you, seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened. Let’s ask God for a miracle!”
The next afternoon, Axelle’s children were on their way home when they saw something under a nearby tree. When they went to investigate, they found all of their belongings neatly tied up and left there. They carried the bundles home and were excited to find that nothing was missing. Axelle’s faith was strengthened, and the next week she told everyone at church, “Thanks to God. He has proved that He is a prayer-answering God!”
We are grateful for the support of Christ Community Church (Canoga Park, CA), Wadsworth Avenue Evangelical (Meadville, PA), Agnes Independent Baptist Church (Springtown, TX), Grace Assembly of God (Singapore), Collinsville Congregational Church (Collinsville, CT), and many others who have made it possible for families in Benin, like Axelle’s, to discover the power of prayer and give thanksgiving to God because He answers prayers.
