Bible translations have long been a part of our culture and have had great historical significance. Early Bible translations include the Latin Vulgate Bible, which was the first time that the Word of God had been presented in a written form other than the original Hebrew and Greek. The Wulfila Bible was another notable translation created by a 4th century missionary to the Goths of Scandinavia, and marks the first such translation in any Germanic tongue.

Today, the history and tradition of Bible translations are carried out through the sacrificial work of the Bible Societies, Wycliffe Bible Translators, and other translation groups. More people have access to the written Word of God than at any other time in history. From the efforts of this global network, Bible translations are available in nearly 300 languages spoken around the world and missionary work has spread around the globe into developing countries. Tragically, the effectiveness of this tremendous work has been limited because over 50% of the world’s population is illiterate. A vast majority of people living in underdeveloped countries cannot read the Word of God, even when it is translated in their own language.

Faith Comes By Hearing provides an answer to the problem of illiteracy which missionaries face by recording the Bible and distributing Audio Bibles in the languages of people and cultures on every continent in this world. The people within these language groups would have no other way of making a personal connection with God’s Word unless it is brought to them in audio. By offering audio recordings of Bible translations and making Audio Bibles available on CD and in MP3 formats the Bible has become accessible to those who cannot read the written Word or who may in fact not even have a written language. Audio Bibles provide virtually universal access to the Scriptures for all the world’s peoples.

The technology behind the Bible MP3 format makes it possible to store tiny files on any hard drive making it accessible for distribution. Bible downloads can be shared over the World Wide Web and transferred to a variety of listening devices, stored on any hard drive, or copied to a portable disk media to create a Bible on MP3. Because of how easy it is to transport the recordings of the Bible, these have become the fastest and most effective ways of spreading the Gospel.
