Founded in 1816, the American Bible Society (ABS) has a long tradition of distributing the printed Word across America and around the world. ABS and Faith Comes By Hearing have worked together for more than 33 years. During 2005-2007, they gave significant help to Faith Comes by Hearing in order to accelerate the following mission for the 50 percent of the world's population that cannot read:
- To record 2,000 languages that are or will be translated by 2016. Upon completion, these recordings could reach 97% of the world’s population.
- To start two million FCBH programs, primarily in churches, among the poor and illiterate — these groups will reach one billion Bibleless people.
- And from these one billion, to see at least 150 million believers discipled in the faith.
